SPIDERS Ruin Every Precious Moment

This is only vaguely related to college but...

So my mom asked me to clean up my High school stuff (evil hag--just kidding) so I went to my brown table that kept all my high school stuff, well mostly just junior and senior stuff.

I got some of my notebooks, ready to put them into the 'trash' pile, when I looked at the back and saw all my doodles, my notes... and I got all sad because the music playing in the background was Taylor Swift...

Wait, what? How can that be sad, right? Well, I think it was either Back to December or Speak Now but the sound (not the lyrics) was really sad so I got all emo in like *snap* and started reminiscing..

Then I was about to pick up my Chemistry book to look at more doodles when I saw a FUCKING BROWNISH RED SPIDER. That totally ruined the whole moment because I chucked the book back and left a big mess. Then I went online to share this story to my friends (not here, though, nobody reads this).

So in your face, mom, I left a bigger mess than if I hadn't tried to clean up.

Someday I might get over my arachnophobia, someday I might not.. but today.. I just really hate spiders.

My Recent Trip to ADMU

So, as you know (if you even read this blog), I went to ADMU today to pass my medical records.
The day did NOT start out so good. I woke up at 5AM because I alarmed it at 5AM with the words 'Greet Lyca a Happy Birthday' and so I got off my back, turned on the wifi, turned on the TV, sat on the couch, and Wall-posted her on Facebook using my iPod. So I was able to watch an enjoyable Valentine's Day episode of Bones, which later led to me texting my brother to buy me the entire season on DVD, and three quarters of an episode of SNL hosted by Taylor Swift (I could tell it was really old because the jokes were about Kanye and that Jonas middle guy). I was all packed and ready by 8 o'clock but my dad was not yet ready. Out of frustration, I went inside the car and read Paolo's gift, Albert Einstein: Ideas and Opinions. Until he finally got in the car. But we had to go back anyway because he forgot his damn cellphone.

And on the express way, the idiot employee at Shell put Unleaded gas in our car instead of... well, whatever gas they're supposed to put, but my dad said it was fine.

So anyway, we got to Ateneo at around 10:30 because of our multiple delays... and my dad, ever so horrible with directions, took a wrong turn to the parking lot, so we had to go around again... and then FINALLY we got to my building but we had no idea where the Social Sciences building was, we just had a map but you know how maps are, they don't look like the real thing.. so my mom just asked for directions from two chubby guys, one with an ID, although my mom asked the guy with the ID, the ID-less guy answered us. He was soooo polite, AND he spoke in perfect fluent almost American-like English! The conversation went something like this:

Mom: Excuse me... (to ID guy)
Non-ID guy: Yes?
ID guy looking scared and shy. (I didn't actually see if he was looking scared or shy, I just thought the story would be cooler like that)
Mom: Where can I find the Social Sciences building?
Non-ID guy: Oh, it's right there! *points to a building about 20 meters (I have no idea about this, I suck at real-life measuring) away* It's the white building.
Mom: Oh, okay, thanks!
Non-ID guy: No problem! (in a jolly voice)

That TOTALLY raised my respect for the school.

So anyway, we headed there with my medical records. Fortunately, this time, I passed them at the Office of Health Services at the Social Sciences building. The lady there was WAY nicer than the grumpy lady I first met at the Office of Admission and Aid (although she did become really nice at the end, when I was done...), she spoke to me like I didn't know anything--which for the first time, I didn't bother because I'm always really nervous when I talk to people from 'Offices'.

So anyway, she asked me if I had a Facebook account, I politely said, "Opo." and she said I should like them on Facebook--I was on the verge of asking 'which one?' because there are so many Ateneo de Manila University pages on Facebook but then she handed me a blue slip with the name of what I had to like, it's... Ateneo LS Health Services. Oh, crap. I just signed in to Facebook and realized I changed my e-mail to the non-magz one because of all the e-mails I get from Facebook... nah, they wouldn't care. A lot of people have different Facebook e-mail addresses anyway.

I just 'liked' it on Facebook. Weird how none of my Ateneo friends liked it yet. Haha in fact, only 92 people liked it. I guess it's a new thing.

So after I got the record straight--the medical record *waggles eyebrows*, I went to the Office of the Associate Dean for Student Affairs (ADSA) to get my ID picture taken (I won't tell you about that, I always look horrible in pictures) and the people there were really nice, too. The lady asked me whether I liked the picture or wanted to take another one. I was so caught off guard with the niceness that I said okay haha.

So after that, we went to my dorm, which it technically considered a condo (but not those fancy condos you see in movies :( haha) because it has 3 bedrooms (originally two, but the previous owner thought the living room was way too huge so he built a wall, making another room), and two bathrooms. I picked the room with the bathroom already in it. My brother, being the architecture student with a lot of crap, got the living room-bedroom one. Anyway, I spent much of the time there measuring the three rooms whilst texting my brother whether the small room would be fine for him--which I think is only fair because he refused to go see it twice already on account of he's too lazy to wake up early.

Anyway, after that we went to Trinoma to have lunch. Walked around with my aching feet and... other aching body parts... trying to look for Mickey Mouse ears but no to avail. So we went back to Pampanga, to SM Pampanga, and tried there, no luck, either. So we finally ate at Yellowcab where I saw this good-looking guy on the table next to us. And then we went home, oh before that we bought palm leaves since it's Palm Sunday tomorrow and we are just as religious as the next person.

Since I so failingly forgot to take pictures of this day-with the exception of a video I recorded of the unit, showing my brother which room was his and the kitchen and the view, etc. I will show you the Note I created on my iPod touch today.
(I wrote this randomly so don't be confused)

"There is a Philippine Coconut Authority.
Note to self: when I grow up, I'm getting a car with a GPS so I never have to learn the names of these complicated roads in Manila. And I'll call it Gladys P. Sturgess.
I thought there was a lesbian couple on the table beside ours at Kenny Roger's but it turned out the man was wearing a ponytail.
I put another 'Ashley Magz was here \m/' on a Megasketch toy in Toys R Us.
The 'Executive Wear' at SM Pamp Dept Store is made up of mostly, if not all, MEN'S clothes. So what, women can't be powerful executives, huh? Write to feminist organization.
Saw Sheldon's T-shirt folding device and now wondering whether they used to sell that a long time ago and I'm just finding out about it now.
I was given free mouthwash in Trinoma. It's teeny tiny, but still. It's free mouthwash.
It has been so long since I last ate at Yellowcab, I have forgotten that they don't give out numbers, instead they call your name.
I just found out my brother spent P50,000 on Blake's birthday and Blake won't even remember it!"

That's all, folks!
See ya real soon!

Getting Shot for the First Time (Since I Can Remember)

According to my immunization record (a little yellow piece of card paper which has traveled across the globe), the last shot I received was on 1996 in Brunei, that was for, I think, Measles-Mumps-Rubella dose #2. But when my family went back to the Philippines, I got another shot in 2001 and that was my third dose of Hepatitis B.

So now that you've been briefed on my immunization history haha... I've provided you with a picture of my band-aid-covered injection hole.

I know it's blurred, and I could have done a better job at it in Photoshop but damn it's really hot and the doctor shot me on my right arm (since I'm left-handed, also known as awesome) and now I can't use the mouse much because I get this stabbing feeling on the underbelly of my right arm. Also, I don't normally take pictures of myself, or like being taken picture of (see Facebook profile for proof) so one might be surprised as to why I suddenly started taking pictures with my trust low mega-pixel-ed cellphone/s, and that is because, well, this is a blog and blogs full of words are no doubt boring and not worth spending time reading (as I've noticed when comparing my worded MAWB episodes and my Sims MAWB episodes).

I know Paolo felt hot (not that kind of hot) after he got his shot, and the doctor said I might get a fever but so far I'm not feeling anything out of the ordinary... well my neck kinda hurt but that's probably because I'm typing this with my head horizontal on a pillow.

So anyway I got my Tetanus-Diphtheria Booster, another requirement for my Ateneo Health Record. And my doctor also advised that since I'll be living in Manila soon, I should take MORE shots like Hepatitis A and typhoid fever shots because they're the ones that get passed through consumption. A little research on Wikipedia told me that Charles Darwin had typhoid fever, and a list of other people that weren't as important to me as he was.

Also, I discovered that my brother was the one who least had shots, so we'll be going back to my paediatrician on the third week of May (she's going to Guam on vacation).

So anyway, the next college-related adventure will most likely be my third trip to my dream school, Ateneo de Manila University! It's sad, I know, that I look forward to going to my school. But it is really clean there, and whenever I go there I imagine I'm at Harvard.

Until the next seemingly exciting but not so much adventure. Good-bye!

X-Rays, Shingles, and Mickey Mouse's Tuxedo

So today, April 13, 2011, I had my first chest radiograph, more commonly known as the chest x-ray. I went in at around 10:20AM and we were told to pick it up at 1:00PM. I don't know why that is relevant to the telling of this story but still, it's nice to know things.

So I heard from my friend Alex that, in taking an x-ray, you would be pressed between two machines--at least that's what it was like for her. My x-ray was different although they share the similarity of having to take off all your upper garments... awkward... haha but it was okay for me since I was given this brownish-green robe. I was asked to stand, sticking my body to this square thing that looked like a target and place my hands on my hips. Then the guy (yes, it was a guy) told me to take a deep breath and hold it, so naturally I expected to hold it quite long so there I was taking one of the deepest breaths of my life when after a second he said, "Okay, that's it!" And I felt like I spent a lot of air on that.

For my shots, we went to my paediatrician to get a record of my shots. I thought, prior to this day, that I had to get ALL the shots listed there, and I found out I already had them when I was a baby. I also found out that I already had chicken pox in 1996! I now feel apologetic towards Jillian for running away from her that one day she went back to school two weeks early after getting chicken pox, or as we affectionately called her situation chicken bulutong.

But since my mother is not very good at keeping records--I can't blame her, though, I'm the last of four children, with the first three traveling from country to country a lot--we spent quite a few minutes trying to make sure that I indeed had chicken pox when I was two years old. My mom said she was positive because that was the time my eldest brother, Francis, had to ride the plane alone when he was just a kid because he got chicken pox. Then we all got infected when he arrived.

So the chicken pox discussion reached a point where my mom asked what would be the side-effects of taking the shot if one already had chicken pox and my doctor said that one possibility is shingles. I searched more on shingles and saw that it's basically a painful rash. But I already had chicken pox, so the doctor just put down on the paper that no shot was needed since I already had it. I apparently also had my Hepatitis B three doses haha. But I need to take one more shot of this thing for grown ups. My doctor, being a paediatrician, didn't have that stuff just lying around so she'll have to order some, so I'm going back there on Friday. This is a problem because my friends were planning on playing badminton on Friday. Well, I guess I could just play Monopoly at Paolo's house instead.

After all that medical stuff, my mom dragged me under the burning sun (this was around 1 o'clock, mind you) to the cloth shop, AIKOSHINE (I think that's their name) to buy some satin red and navy blue because my mom wanted to make Blake wear Mickey Mouse's tuxedo (the one he wears at Disneyland) for his 1st birthday, but instead of black, she chose navy blue. I feel sorry for the little guy, he's gonna be sooooo sweaty haha.

So anyway, to end this blog post, I gift you with a picture of my X-Ray result. I'm a little concerned about the thing on the left--what IS that? :)) I saw pictures of chest x-rays in Google and none of them had that weird organ thing.

The First Post!

This is my first ever blog post as a bona fide college student! Well, actually, I'm not enrolled yet or anything, but I have a confirmed slot! That's pretty much like enrolling here anyway.

So for recording purposes, even though the technological properties of this blog already does it for me, I would like to formally announce that this blog, My College Blog, was created on Sunday, April 10 of 2011 in the late hour of 11:30. No, I will not consider it April 11.

Next on my list (there is no list) would be to state the intents and the purposes of creating this blog. For one thing, I'm done with High school and moving on up to Higher Education (EDIT: I originally wrote 'Secondary Education' until I realized, in 2015, that it was incorrect.)! Hurray! So, for this new chapter in my life, I am determined to record as many possible happenings during my 4 years at Ateneo de Man--oh wait, sorry. I forgot to put "the"... during my 4 years at The Ateneo de Manila University where I am a soon-to-be Management Engineering student.

College is a very scary next step for nearly everybody. And the author feels the same (that's cool I think I will refer to myself as The Author from now on) way. I am fully aware of how demanding my course will be and I'm just not sure I'm ready to make the transition from barely-studying-high-school-student to nose-on-the-grindstone-college-student. I mean, it's true for most of us, right? We did NOT work that hard in high school because we all know that's the enjoyable part. When it comes to college... well, you can't do those things anymore.

So I've got this whole planned worked out where all I do is study, blog, and explore the new environment. I would probably still be addicted to Facebook in the early months of my school year but sooner or later, I hope to drop the habit and just try to hit to books.

Yeah, nobody likes to hear about that. So anyway, hopefully a lot of exciting stuff will be happening in college very soon, so that I may talk about it online even though nobody reads my blogs. And by the way, when I'm all grown up and famous, people will be reading my blogs for sure. Right now it's just new so there isn't much to talk about. Quite possibly my next post will be about my medicals. It is a requirement for enrollment to get an X-ray and I'm really exited about how that will turn out. I will also be getting, like, 9 shots and the last time I had ever gotten a shot was so long ago I can't remember what it feels like so that will be a somewhat new experience for me.

Good night!
